Most plants that die in their first year were planted too deep or chosen for the wrong spot. We pick for the site, sun, soil and the size the plant reaches in ten years rather than the size on the truck, and we plant with the root flare at grade, in a hole two to three times the width of the root ball, with the burlap and wire basket cut away rather than left to strangle the roots. Then we mulch, water in, and leave you a schedule for the first season.
